WARNING: You don’t want to miss out on this post due to its length. This isn’t an Instagram post or a post for the faint in heart. This is an urgent appeal to the Muslim community. We believe it’s a responsibility you have towards Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى and his Rasul ﷺ to invest the next 5 minutes of your valuable time in reading it. Inshallah, every second you spend reading this plea will be of significant reward for you in both this life and the hereafter, and of course, of major impact to the Muslim ummah and humanity at large.

The eradication of Riba is one of the greatest struggles of our time, as expressed by some prominent Scholars of today. In fact, The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ cursed those who consume Riba (interest) or usury. In Sahih Muslim…

Jabir said that Allah’s Messenger ﷺ cursed the accepter of interest and its payer, and one who records it, and the two witnesses, and he said: They are all equal.

In the Arabic language, the word La’an or curse means to be kicked out of Allah’s سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى mercy and to earn his punishment. Imagine not just going to war with Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى, but imagine being cursed by Rasul Allah ﷺ! Contemplate this point for a minute. Which Sunnah of Rasul Allah ﷺ is going to do anyone any good as long as we arrogantly and knowingly partake in Riba?

We thought long and hard before sharing these words with you, but we feel an obligation before Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى and his Rasul ﷺ to clarify our position on this matter and relay the following for you to contemplate:

  1. No Sunnah of our beloved prophet can yield its optimal fruits in our lives so long as we knowingly and arrogantly partake in Riba.
  2. Many people will come on the day of judgement with mountains of good deeds. Despite this, they will still end up in the fire of hell. Some of them even perform prayers, fast, and pray tahajjud, but what’s the use of it all if the source of our income is infiltrated with Riba. May Allah save us all.

If you contemplate the two points mentioned above, you’ll conclude that it’s absolutely paramount and wiser obviously, for us to remove the haram from our lives before we ornament it with the halal and the Sunnah’s of Rasul Allah ﷺ. What’s the use of a scented garden when its soil is topped with manure. This doesn’t mean that we avoid the Sunnah’s because we haven’t emptied ourselves from all that’s haram, but we need to make an intentional and focused effort to do so.

Manzil is on a mission to provide the Muslim community and even non-Muslims with the opportunity to break the shackles of Riba and completely eradicate it from their lives. Nothing will make Rasul Allah ﷺ prouder than a focused and well-intentioned communal effort to eradicate Riba from the face of this earth. This is the ultimate civic engagement and responsibility.

What will we tell Rasul Allah ﷺ when we see him on the day of judgement, and will we be able to look him in the eyes if we don’t accomplish this mission?

Think of your children. Will they participate in the financial system and invest their money without any dealings in Riba? Have you? If you were able to participate and properly invest your money in a way that aligns with your religious obligations, would your children be any better off today?

Think of all the non-Muslims and the potential da’wa this could have. Ethical financing is the talk of the year. Is there any financial system more ethical than that which Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى and his Rasul ﷺ laid down for humanity? Banks are in the business of maximizing profits while minimizing risk, prioritizing profit while dehumanizing their consumers. Islamic finance is in the business of God before people and people before profit.

Please think of the millions of non-Muslims we would be setting a good example for by exposing them to this ethical and humane financial system laid down by Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى and his Rasul ﷺ. The gist of it all is that we must all play our part, as one community, to remove the Prophet’s ﷺ curse.

Your involvement and participation, however, is essential to the success of this noblest mission. We’ve created and established the only Halal Fund that pays you a halal return higher than comparable haram funds. This money is then used to finance the homes of Muslims. Your return is two-fold; your investment receives its return in this world and the hereafter.

There are 1.6 million Muslims in Canada today. If we wanted to put every single one of them in a halal home, we’d need close to a trillion dollars in the fund, and as Muslims, we’re more than capable of doing it if we all work together towards this cause. One hand never claps. There are currently approximately 1.2 million dollars in the fund, so we still have a lot of work to do.

Imagine if 100,000 Muslims each put 10,000 dollars in the fund today. That would put the fund at $1B dollars allowing us to finance up to 5,000 homes. That’s 5,000 families moving towards the pleasure of Allah. This $10,000 doesn’t even have to come from your chequing account; you can transfer it over from an existing account you may have at another financial institution in the form of an RRSP, RESP, or TFSA. This is not a charitable donation. This is a real investment with real halal returns. You will be getting sadaqah jaariya for all the Muslims supported by this fund.

Here are some practical steps you can take right now to support Manzil if you reside in Canada or if you’re a Canadian Citizen:

  1. Move any registered accounts from your existing banks or institutions over to Manzil’s Fund. These include accounts like RRSPs, RESPs, and TFSAs. Click here to get started.
  2. Invest as much money as you can afford to in the Manzil Fund
  3. Get on our halal financing waitlist; it’s now a 1.5 billion dollar waitlist and growing. We’ve already completed the financing of our first four homes to date and should be completing more by the end of this year. Click here to get on that waitlist.
  4. Own a piece of Manzil by Investing in the Manzil SAFE (Simple Agreement for Future Equity)
  5. Become an Ambassador of this noblest mission and share Manzil’s story and vision with your friends, family, colleagues, and everyone you come into contact with: Email us at ambassador@manzil.ca.

We have plenty of Masajid, Islamic schools, and halal food is in abundance Alhamdu lil’Allahh. What’s left is an end-to-end Islamic Bank that caters to the needs of many Muslims who refuse to participate in the traditional banking system in place today.

We need access to halal financial solutions that activate what’s otherwise dormant cash sitting in traditional chequing accounts for a more robust impact. More cash equals more potential impact and a stronger political influence for Muslims in the future, inshallah. Imagine if our forefathers had invested heavily in the US or Canadian economy. We would be reaping those fruits today!

It’s not always easy to do what’s not popular, but that’s where you usually make your money, and of course, a difference in the world!

Let’s work together to remove our Prophet’s ﷺ curse and the wrath of Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى before it’s too late. Believe us when we say there’s no better way to spend your efforts in this challenging and tribulating world we live in today. Please do it for Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى, do it for Rasul Allah ﷺ, do it for yourself, do it for your children, do it for the Ummah, do it for humanity at large.

Quran 2:275

“The ones who eat (up) riba (Interest or other unlawful gains; usury) will not rise except as he whom Ash-shaytan (The all-vicious, i.e., the Devil) ever smites with the touch rises. That is because they have said, “Surely selling is only like riba.” And Allah has made selling lawful, and has prohibited riba.” So, he to whom an admonition has come from his Lord (and) so has refrained (in obedience), then he will have whatever is bygone, (i.e. he is forgiven for his parts gains) and his case (Literally: command, i.e. the command of Allah to him) is for Allah; and whoever goes back, then those are the companions (i.e., the inhabitants) of the Fire, and they are therein eternally (abiding).” Clear Quran 2:275 Translated by Dr. Ghali
